As many of you are aware, the Greeneview Transportation department has been operating short on staff and has regularly experienced changes in our bus routes. We regularly have to hold students beyond dismissal time at the Middle School because we are combining other existing routes. We contracted with Transportation Consultants from the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) last fall and began an official assessment to address these concerns. We were seeking solutions to address several factors contributing to our struggles. Our District covers 115 square miles and our population density is low, which results in long routes for many of our riders on the outer portions of our district. Many of our local and lake routes are running at capacity, and we struggle with overcrowding. In addition to the long routes and the overcrowding, all of our buses have KG-12th grade students on the same bus, and this has the potential to cause problems. Our current transportation operation and school starting and ending times do not offer the flexibility to adequately address these issues.
Following the 6-month study, OSBA has recommended a change to our student transportation that addresses all of our current concerns while maintaining transportation for all students currently being transported to Greeneview Schools. In order to accomplish these transportation changes, we will need to change the starting and ending times of our school buildings. Middle School and High School students will be transported together, and Elementary School students will be transported on a separate bus route. These changes will allow us to reduce our number of buses in operation, eliminate overcrowding in high-density areas, and reduce route times.
We are moving forward with this recommendation and will implement these changes in August 2017 by changing our starting and ending times in all of our buildings.
High School 7:20 AM – 2:30 PM
Middle School 7:30 AM – 2:25 PM
Elementary 9:10 AM – 3:30 PM
We will host an informational meeting on Wednesday, May 24th from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Greeneview High School Auditeria if you have any questions about these changes.
The letter sent to families on May 17, 2017 details more of the plan and the anticipated benefits of the changes.
