On Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 nine Ram Writers attended the Greater Impact Stem Academy (GISA) for Power of the Pen’s District Competition. Coaches Carolyn Jones and Amy Engle judged over 15 compositions each from other school districts. In Power of the Pen, judges never judge their own students, and writers never compete against someone in their own school.
Our 8th grade competitors were Megan Kingsolver, Kendal Allen, Jadyn Hoecke, Josey Powers, Hope Beverly, and Allison Mussetter. The 7th grade writers were Calla Perry, Carmen Kell, and Hailey Mills.
Allison Mussetter received received a medallion for her 2nd place in all three rounds of writing and quality points in the 90s in all three rounds. She will go on to compete in the Regional Power of the Pen Competition at Wittenberg on March 9th. Way to go Allie!
Several writers received Honorable mentions: Kendall Allen who had two 2nd place rounds, Jadyn Hoecke who had a 3rd place round, Megan Kingsolver who had a 3rd place round, Calla Perry who placed 2nd in her heat of Round 1, Carmen Kell with a 3rd place in Round 1 and a 1st place score in Round 2, and Hailey Mills who had a 3rd place score in Round 2.
All of our Ram Writers enjoyed the day, and made us proud with their stamina and creativity. We are hopeful when the final scores with Rank Points and Quality Points are all configured, that we will have more writers attending the next level of competition. The top 50% of writers from all 14 schools in attendance will be selected for this honor. We should have those results by the end of the week. Ram Writers rocked Saturday!
