Educational Plan for the Remainder of School

Greetings Greeneview Community,


Following Governor DeWine’s announcement this week to keep school buildings closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, we wanted to share the following information with you. While this guidance was not the answer we were hoping for this spring, we are not surprised by the announcement and have been planning our response. The following announcements are meant as our initial plans regarding this closure for Greeneview’s staff, students, and families.


Greeneview will continue our distance learning plan through the end of the original school year, which was scheduled to end on May 21st. We appreciate the dedication and work our staff have put into developing, implementing and facilitating this program in our District. We know it has placed a heavy burden on all of you and we appreciate the support and dedication to provide the best educational opportunities possible to our students during this unprecedented time. We are encouraging our staff to keep students engaged through the end of the school year. We appreciate the partnership that has developed between school and home during this time, and we ask that you continue to engage with the learning while putting the health and safety of your family first. We understand every family situation is different, so please communicate with your teachers and principals if you are experiencing difficulties with this educational plan.


To further support our students, families and staff, there will be a noticeable difference in the amount of new work assigned after May 8th. Please understand, we are NOT ending the school year early. The last two weeks of school will allow us to focus on student make-up work and remediation. We will continue to make intentional connections with students. We made this decision to scale back the new work being assigned in order to allow students and staff to successfully complete the school year and allow time for staff to engage in professional learning in preparation for next school year. At the Middle School and High School, there will be NO second semester exams. Please note High School students enrolled in AP and CC+ may still need to take the exams in order to receive college credit.


In response to the OHSAA eligibility guidelines, fourth quarter grades will be used to verify fall athletic eligibility. All student-athletes will need to earn five (5) passing fourth-quarter grades to be eligible for the 2020 fall season. As of April 21st, OHSAA has cancelled all spring sports for this school year. Mr. Rinehart will announce our plan for granting Varsity G letters in response to this forced closure of sports.


We know the end of the school year typically includes many celebrations, honoring our students for their achievements. We are currently making plans to recognize our students for their great work. Special recognitions are being planned for students who will be leaving a building for the last time (4, 8, and 12). Please look for those specific plans to come directly from your building principal. Awards certificates and yearbooks will be distributed in August when we return.


We are monitoring the most recent state guidelines and recommendations from ODE and the Governor’s Office regarding large group gatherings. As of April 21st, Cedarville University cancelled all on-campus events for May so we are forced to consider alternative options for graduation. At this time, the Senior awards and scholarship ceremony will take place in conjunction with graduation. The last day of instruction for seniors will now be May 8th. Please look for specific plans to come directly from Mr. Kasner as we have more information on graduation guidelines.


We will announce detailed information as we get closer to the end of school detailing how students can retrieve any remaining personal belongings left at school and turn in district-owned books and computers. We have set aside May 20-22 as the collection dates to allow students to complete their assigned work. It will be important that you follow the announced timelines and guidelines to ensure that we can gather in a safe and efficient manner. These announcements will be made by the building principals at a later date once we have finalized the details.


Our buildings will remain closed to students and public until further notice. Our custodial staff will begin their summer maintenance projects and summer cleaning of the facilities. We will also begin several small projects at the Elementary to prepare for the 4th grade classroom we are adding next fall. The track at Don Nock Stadium and the tennis courts at GHS will remain open for community use, but please observe social distancing requirements. At this time, summer camps and all athletic activities are on hold until further notice.


We understand that we are all living in trying times. We will continue to serve meals to our students through our school meal program throughout the month of June. As of last week, we are able to provide food for any child living in your home 18 years old or younger. Please continue to reach out to our school staff if you need support for your child or family.


As a district, we appreciate the partnerships and communication that has been deepened between school and our community as a result of this forced closure. We welcome your feedback and support as we work to make the daily decisions and changes necessary to best serve our students and community. We are confident that we will be better as a result of the things we have learned this spring. Please stay safe, healthy, and engaged.
