The Greeneview Board of Education will vote on the 2016-2017 School Calendar at the February 18, 2016 meeting. These two calendars are options presented by the District and by the Teacher's Union. If you have any feedback, please email feedback@greeneview.org or you can attend the meeting on Thursday to address the Board during public input.
The District proposed the Traditional Calendar and attempted to line up Christmas Break and Spring Break with as many of the other area schools as possible.
You will see that in both calendar proposals that we added WOEA Day and Professional Development days back into the calendar.
The GEA Calendar Committee requested an alternative calendar option that would adjust spring break. The concern of the traditional spring break is that it falls in the middle of the State testing windows. For many staff members and students in our district, those tests are essential for graduation, grade promotion, and teacher evaluations. The committee’s perspective was that it didn’t make educational sense to have a long break in the middle of that window and lose out on valuable instruction and review time prior to the tests. We did attempt to spread out the long weekends in order to break up the spring and to offer families several weekends to take long weekend getaways.
Again, please offer your feedback at feedback@greeneview.org or attend the meeting on Thursday night.
